bitterroot valley important bird area

Montana Audubon and the Bitterroot Audubon Chapter, have teamed up to protect the Bitterroot River from just south of Lolo to just north of Hamilton! This cottonwood bottomland and riparian habitat is great for Lewis' Woodpecker, Red-naped Sapsuckers, Willow Flycatchers, and many more bird species. The Bitterroot RIver IBA has been formally "adopted" by the Bitterroot Audubon Chapter, and they have more information at their website HERE >>

This June the Lee Metalf National Widlife Refuge, together with scientists, Montana Audubon and a host of volunteers, put on a fantastically successful Bitterroot Bio Blitz. This refuge is a cornerstone of the Bitterroot IBA and having these data and working with these partners is important.
