Center Activities and Updates- April 2016

Earth Day Celebration!

Saturday, April 23rd 2016, 9:00am-12:30pm

Bird Walk: 7:00am

Join the Montana Audubon Center for our 8th Annual Earth Day Celebration, a day of stewardship projects and education about how to care for our planetary home. The 2016 International Earth Day theme is “Trees for the Earth,” which is a great chance to highlight the habitat restoration projects we’re doing at the Center. New this year will be a guided morning bird walk before the main event, led by Carol Ward, Center Naturalist, and Amy Seaman, Montana Audubon Associate Director of Conservation. Meet in the Center parking lot at 7am. Families welcome!

Work and fun at the Center begin at 9:00. Participants will have their choice of projects, from naturalist-led trash pickup hikes to planting native species, mulching, and weeding. We will also have special projects for kids, Earth Day-themed information tables, and a cash raffle for some great prizes. Join us for an hour or all morning. Bring water, work gloves, and the whole family. If you have one, bring a shovel! No fee for participation; volunteers are invited to a free BBQ lunch at noon. Event takes place rain or shine.

Fledglings Preschool Registration Now Open

Our Montana Audubon Center preschool program has been a great success this year. Eight students have spent a whole year exploring, fishing, building forts, catching bugs, and bird-watching their hearts out in all weather. Fledglings is a member of the Natural Start Alliance, a pre-K program of the North American Association for Environmental Education, and draws from a rich history of successful forest schools and nature preschools around the world. Their time in Fledglings provides for our youngsters a great foundation for critical thinking, collaboration, problem-solving, social interaction, and connection to nature. Our registration for 2016-2017 is now open, and we are excited to announce that we will be offering a Tuesday-Thursday morning class in addition to our MondayWednesday-Friday class. Contact the Center for more information.
