Center Activities and Updates: April 2017

New/Old Bridges at the Center

Getting around the trails at the Center was recently made easier by the enthusiastic and skillful volunteer work of Bob Mackin, bridge builder and long-time supporter of the Center from Mackin Construction in Billings Montana. The wood planks on the original foot bridge, first installed in 2002, had served their time well but were in need of replacement. The new, treated wood will last even longer than the original wood, and we think they look pretty good, too. The old wood planks? They will be re-purposed into raised bed garden frames for our new Fledglings Preschool Urban Learning Lab garden. Stop by sometime and walk the new bridge for yourself!

Hello! My name is Clarissa Cerovski and I am the new Land Stewardship intern here at the Montana Audubon Center. This is my final semester as an Environmental Studies major at MSU-B and I chose to do my internship at the Center because I felt it would give me an invaluable opportunity to expand my knowledge of land remediation and environmental education, while expanding my skill set in regards to stewardship.

The project I am currently involved in is Sage inventory here on the site. I have been using a GPS navigation device to record the number and health of the sites Sagebrush. This information will allow Trinity Pierce, Land Stewardship Coordinator, to plan further planting and remediation initiatives. I’m grateful for this opportunity to work on the Center’s restoration initiative!

Job Opportunities, Summer Camp, and other Announcements

We’re hiring at the Center for both an Early Childhood Teacher Naturalist and a seasonal Restoration Assistant. Click here for details.

Summer Camp Registration is now open! Thirty-three camps for ages 5-14 plus our new Fledglings Summer Session for the pre-K crowd. Full camp catalog available as well as registration links available here.

Remember that the Center is a great place for birthday parties and school field trips. Call the office to schedule a visit!
