Big Sky Watershed Corps-AmeriCorps Member-

Montana Audubon

The BSWC member will support the organization’s Bird Conservation Programs statewide and also engage in education and outreach efforts that support Montana Audubon and Montana Conservation Corps’ Indian Education for All (IEFA) in Great Falls.  Specifically the member will assist in the implementation of our Bird Conservation Programs (bird monitoring, species data-base entry, etc.) and our Important Bird Area Program (IBA).  The member will also assist with education, outreach, and monitoring for our GEMS project (Golden Eagle Migration Survey) where we annually count an estimated three to four thousand raptors known to pass through the site on their migration south along the Rocky Mountains.

Primary duties of the Big Sky Watershed Corps Member (CM) include working with the Host Site staff to complete tasks related to project design and implementation, community outreach and education, volunteer generation and management and reporting functions.  The CM works under the direct supervision of the Host Site Supervisor and MCC Staff to ensure successful completion of program objectives.  The CM is an AmeriCorps Member and is entitled to the benefit package offered to all AmeriCorps Members.

Position Location: Helena, MT

Term of Service: 4/29/19-11/15/19 (Start date can be flexible for the right candidate)    

Living Stipend: $597 biweekly

Education Award: $2,960 upon successful completion of the program

Required Qualifications:

  • College degree (B.A./B.S.), preferably in environment, wildlife biology or education related field.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license, access to a vehicle, ability to pass a motor vehicle records check, US Citizenship or ability to work in the US.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience:

  • Previous experience with fieldwork, data collection and analysis and bird identification.
  • Previous teaching and volunteer management experience.
  • Proven ability to work with a diverse group of stakeholders.
