On January 17, 2025, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a 2020 decision that struck down the basis for the previous Trump administration’s oil and gas leasing on more than a million acres of public lands in key habitat for the Greater Sage-grouse in the West.
On Wednesday December 18, the Montana Supreme Court upheld the original ruling in the Held v. Montana lawsuit, and affirmed that, “… Montana’s right to a clean and healthful environment and environmental life support system includes a stable climate system.”
