Center Activities and Updates- November 2016

Winter Programs to Keep You Warm

Looking for a reason to head outside this season? Take a walking tour of the Yellowstone River, join us for some bird-friendly nature crafts, or drop off the kids for a Kids Campfire Friday! To reserve your spot, look for the event on our program calendar and click on the registration link.

Yellowstone River Walk
This 680-mile un-dammed river is a cultural and ecological focal point for the entire region. Want to know more about it? Join our staff naturalists for a once-a-month guided walking tour of the river in all seasons, covering both the social and natural history of the area. $10/person, free for kids under 12. Two-hour tour begins at 10am. Upcoming dates: December 3rd, January 14th, February 4th. Reservations recommended.

Bird-Friendly Holiday Nature Crafts
Looking for a fun gift idea or to give back to nature this holiday season? Bring the whole family for a day of nature crafts: bird feeders, wreaths, ornaments, and more. Learn about the birds and plants in our area as you work! $10/person, $25/family. Supplies provided, no reservations necessary.

Kids Campfire Fridays
Campfires, stories, games, and exploring nature? Sounds like a great time! Sign your kids up for a special evening event just for them, and take some time for a date night yourself. All Campfire Fridays at the Audubon Center feature nature-themed activities, games, and plenty of outdoor play under the supervision of our experienced teacher-naturalist staff. Participants should be prepared for outdoor time, including appropriate clothing and footwear, though we’ve got plenty of indoor activities (and hot cocoa) to warm up with in inclement weather. Ages 4-12, $30/child (10% discount for members). Reservations required. Upcoming dates: December 2nd, January 13th, February 3rd.

Restoration Update

Despite this warm weather, our growing season is finally drawing to a close. With over 550 volunteers involved in our restoration projects this year we are set to surpass the 2015 participation. Volunteers, we celebrate you each and every day! Thank you to all who passed through our doors with shovel in hand and restoration in mind.
Thank you especially to West High Special Education and Corenterprises as you continue to teach us how to appreciate nature with new, and wonderfully varied perspectives. Your brightness and diligent efforts ensure that our vibrant ecosystems are cherished and changing for the better.
