The Montana Audubon Center hosted four different events during the Great Backyard Bird Count weekend, including break camps for students enjoying Presidents’ Day Weekend and our open-house hours on Sunday afternoons. The biggest event of the weekend was an owl-themed Nighthawk Adventure family program on Saturday night. Forty people of all ages learned about local owls in Billings and went for an owl prowl on nearby Norm’s Island. The event was even featured as one of “Seven Ways to Celebrate Valentine’s Day” in the entertainment section of the Billings Gazette. Held on the second Saturday of each month, each month featuring a different theme, the Nighthawks series is quickly becoming our biggest public program.
Upcoming Program: Eco-Splorers for Adventurous Kids
Starting on March 22nd, this eight-week program gives kids a chance to get out and run around in nature after school. Tuesdays from 4-5:30, students from Kindergarten through the 6th grade will learn, explore, adventure, and investigate the natural world at and around the Montana Audubon Center. While so many of us remember having after-school adventures of our own–riding bikes, fishing, stomping in puddles–it’s hard to find kids who have the chance to do those things now. This program, like so much of what the Center does, provides a critical space for outdoor connection, building a conservation ethic in tomorrow’s leaders and having fun while doing it!
