Thank You & Best Wishes

Dear Friends,

On behalf of Montana Audubon, I am writing to inform you of the departure of Carolyn Sevier as Director of our Montana Audubon Center. For nearly three years, Carolyn and I worked to strengthen the positive impacts of the Center, which is a vital part of our mission, “to promote appreciation, knowledge and conservation of Montana’s native birds, other wildlife, and natural ecosystems, and to safeguard biological diversity for current and future generations.”

Highlighted in our upcoming Spring 2020 newsletter, the Center is fostering “the next generation of conservation stewards,” a key to meeting our mission. As famous ecologist Robert Michael Pyle asked, “What is the extinction of a condor to a child who has never seen a wren?” Many times, these vital connections are first made at places like Montana Audubon Center.

As a key member of our Center team, Carolyn strengthened both internal operations and external partnerships. In 2019 alone, Montana Audubon Center:

  • Served more than 1,800 elementary students from 32 schools in ten districts with ANTS (Audubon Naturalists in the Schools)
  • Enrolled 48 students in Fledglings Nature Preschool
  • Helped build a community of conservation with 26,000 annual daily visitors and program participants…and more.

It has been a pleasure to work with Carolyn as part of the Montana Audubon management team. I am proud of what we accomplished together. From all of us at Montana Audubon, we would like to thank Carolyn for her dedicated service and wish her the very best in the future.

For Center-related inquiries, please feel free to contact me or any of our Center staff.

Yours in Conservation,

Larry Berrin

Carolyn’s Departing Message:

It is with sadness and deep respect for its programs and community that I am announcing my departure from the Montana Audubon Center.

What I am most grateful for over the last four and a half years is the opportunity to be part of and grow the foundation of support for our critical work: the partnerships, supporters, networks, staff, and volunteers. Humans need connection with nature more now than ever, which has become especially clear in the last months. Providing intentional space and means for such connection is essential to the health and future of our planet, Montana, and our local communities.

I especially want to thank our organizational partners, Yellowstone River Parks Association and Yellowstone Valley Audubon Society, and so many more, for welcoming me into this project four and a half years ago and for being a continual source of support for me and our team. My home will continue to be in Billings, and I look forward to watching the education work at the Center continue to grow and benefit our community.

With Gratitude and Sincerity,

Carolyn Sevier
